Vision Statement:

The International Affairs Forum is committed to being a leading community resource on critical issues facing the world.

Mission Statement:

The mission of the International Affairs Forum of Traverse City is to advance the understanding of the world and its critical issues through education and public dialogue.

Eight times a year, the IAF brings outstanding foreign policy experts to Traverse City to speak on issues in the news. This has included Pulitzer-prize winning journalist David Broder; former Chief of Staff to two U.S. Presidents James Baker; Iraqi Ambassador Faisal Istrabadi; and many of our finest Ambassadors and Academicians. These lectures are held at NMC’s Milliken Auditorium in the Dennos Museum complex and are rebroadcast on UpNorth TV public access cable television. Learn more about the IAF Lecture Series

IAF is a member of the World Affairs Councils of America, the largest national non-partisan network of almost 100 councils in more than 40 states dedicated to educating and engaging Americans on the critical global issues of our times.

Membership for the upcoming season is now available. Each IAF member receives 16 tickets that can be used by you and/or your guests at any of the 8 lectures  lecture in the current series.

Patron Members additionally receive public recognition at each lecture for their support that has been essential in sustaining IAF for more than 20 years, and their additional contribution helps support the awarding of scholarships to deserving NMC students.

IAF also works with area schools and supports initiatives that will help today’s students become better aware of the world around them. IAF lectures are free to current students and educators.

To underscore IAF’s unique role in helping the community address important topics, IAF organized the region’s first conference on China, June 5-6, 2014, “China Today: Competitor or Partner?” With regional businesses rapidly expanding partnerships with Asia, and NMC and TCAPs planning to increase education exchanges with China, IAF brought together experts and business leaders from within our community, from other communities in Michigan, and from Washington DC and China to debate what these ties will mean for our region.
